The Partnership for Transforming Health Systems: Phase 2 (PATHS II) was set in motion by DFID (UK) (with technical support from implementing partners) to strengthen the Primary Health Care System in Nigeria. The PATHS II programme, through Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) sought to improve knowledge on the benefits of facility births, danger signs of pregnancy, description of the nearest Emergency Obstetric Care facility (Name and Location), and the home management of childhood diarrhoea.

Mannion Daniels, UK- an implementing partner for PATHS II, contracted Preston Associates for International Development in April 2013, to conduct an assessment of the BCC effect on Women’s Knowledge on the four (4) aforementioned key health issues. The study was conducted in Jigawa, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, and Enugu States. The following approaches were employed by Preston Associates in conducting the first round of mini-surveys; Advocacy, Data Collection, Data Coding/Entry, Data Analysis (SPSS), Report Writing and presentation of the Key Findings.

Subsequently, the second round of the surveys was conducted in May 2014, to provide a conclusion on the impact of the BCC interventions. The knowledge levels of these key health issues in both intervention and control communities were assessed using the same methodology as the first round of surveys in the same states.
